Dutch sector organizations Artemis and CropLife NL expect, by 2025, about 30% of the crop protection products used in the country's agriculture and horticulture to be 'green.' That is evident from the Green Crop Protection Degree Meter's calculations. If various incentives are used, that percentage could even be considerably higher, the organizations believe.
Green crop protection products' percentage in Dutch agri and horticulture.
To reach that number, Artemis and CropLife NL combined green products sales data and entered that in the Green Crop Protection Degree Meter. If the trend continues, that share will rise from 13% in 2015 to almost 30% in 2025.
The Green Crop Protection Degree Meter included three categories of sales figures: crop protection products of natural origin (microorganisms, viruses, plant extracts, pheromones), crop protection products for use in organic cultivation, and authorized low-risk products. Sales in any of the categories count only once.
Artemis and CropLife NL think green crop protection product sales should top 30% by 2025. That is, if assessment capacity increases and admission requirements are better tailored to the nature of these products. "There's tremendous focus on integrated crop protection in the agriculture and horticulture sectors. There's increased demand for green agents and using new technologies and organic control products," say spokespeople from both organizations.
