From 7 to 8 July in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the Sustainable Foods Summit marked another successful event exploring the trends and challenges of sustainability in the food industry. Taking place since 2009, the Summit brings together influential industry voices and key decision makers at locations across the globe. As a gold sponsor of the Europe edition for 2022, GLOBALG.A.P. took an active role in moderating the first of four sessions as part of the comprehensive two-day program.

Expanding sustainability horizons
The aim of this year’s Sustainable Foods Summit, organized by ECOVIA Intelligence, was to explore new horizons for sustainability and consumer-facing eco-labels in the food industry. This was achieved through in-depth discussions on a range of key industry issues, from regenerative agriculture and sustainable proteins to plastic-free materials and consumer insights.
The Summit was structured in four sessions over two days, harnessing the diverse range of expertise in attendance to uncover new solutions. GLOBALG.A.P. led the first session entitled “ Sustainability Developments.”
GGN Label Key Account Manager Felix von Eynern, and GLOBALG.A.P. Senior Technical Expert, Rene Capote, moderated the session and shared the recent developments in the cross-category GGN label, the updated flagship standard Integrated Farm Assurance version 6, the smart farm assurance solutions strategy, and the BioDiversity and GRASP add-ons.
Scaling sustainability in the food industry
Further sessions at the Summit covered “Ingredient Innovations,” “Future Trends,” and “Marketing Insights.” This enabled extensive networking opportunities for B2B, B2C, and other sustainability stakeholders such as the Carbon Neutral Group and the European Commission’s Head of Unit Policy Perspectives at the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development.
The event highlighted the determination and forward-thinking approaches of the industry and confirmed the importance of systems such as GLOBALG.A.P. in scaling up sustainability in the food sector.
The next edition of the Summit will be held in Latin America from 29 to 30 November 2022.
