Oerlemans Plastics presents their solutions to three aspects of the industry: outdoor crops, greenhouse crops, and packaging.
Concerning the outdoor crops: the company will explicitly highlight two products here—biofilm and tunnel film. Biofilm is becoming increasingly important in the market, and its use is growing, especially internationally. When it comes to greenhouse crops, the company will highlight a number of products, but the most important at the moment are the AIR-OP climate hose and the OPAC86E anti-condensation film. These focus on energy saving and climate, which is even more important at the moment. Finally, for the packaging, they will show the packaging that they make for horticulture. Products that stand out are the liner bags with laser perforation, which ensures a longer shelf life of the product in the transport chain—also the biodegradable cucumber foil instead of the usual PE.
Products that help growers grow more
BI-OPL biodegradable mulch film is more labor-saving at the end of the cultivation because you can mill it in, and you don't have to remove it from the land. 100% biodegradable, and it saves on the use of water because there is less evaporation. This also eliminates the risk of microplastics in nature.
OPAC86E Anti-condensation film. With these high gas prices, it is important to save as much as possible to reduce costs. With our AC film, it is possible to save up to 20-30% on gas in the first weeks of use.
The PerfoTec LinerBag is made of a special material with high water vapor and CO2 permeability. This keeps the product dry and considerably reduces the chance of mold and bacterial growth, and increases the shelf life of the product.
"Sustainability is, of course, central for us. It is even in our slogan. In every market, we look for the best solutions," says Piet van den Oord, product manager horticulture at the company
"when it comes to outdoor crops, you have the option of using biodegradable films, with no microplastics left in the ecosystem. Or you can opt for recyclable films. Here, we look at the possibilities with partners in collecting used films and recycling them to make new products."
"With greenhouse cultivation, the focus is on recycling after the film has been used. We are trying to develop the films in such a way that this is easier and better. An example is an anti-condensation film: By creating a different fastening system, we can make the anti-condensation film more ready to recycle. Now they use staples to attach it, but this is difficult to remove. Because the new fastening is now the same material as the film, everything can be recycled together and does not have to be separated."
Piet concludes: "also with packaging, recycling is central. For each packaging, we look for optimum ready-to-recycle properties so that they are better and easier to recycle. In countries where recycling is more difficult, we also have biodegradable solutions for various applications."
