"Long-term prospects for the field of LED growing lights are bright"

"The energy efficiency of High Pressure Sodium (HPS) and Metal Halide (HM) grow lights is rather low (PPE  1.8-2.2μmol/J), while LED grow lights are much more efficient (PPE of 3.0μmol/J and higher). Moreover, LED grow lights do not overheat. That is why LED grow lights are gradually replacing HPS and MH grow lights. Tony Chen, spokesperson for Marketing at Ledestar, recently talked about the swaying balance in the market. Ledestar is a specialized supplier of horticultural lighting LED diodes and solution. The company provides comprehensive and specialized LED diodes solutions for horticultural grow light needs.

"LED grow lights only reach the highest effectiveness when the right module is selected. We provide LED along a range of wave bands. We have more than one hundred kinds of full spectrum LED that can target different crops, and we provide different lighting solutions for diverse needs during different stages of the growing process. The largest obstacle for growers has been the high cost, and that is also the key for widespread usage of LED grow lights. We listen to the needs of growers and bring years of experience in the industry to each case, so that we can provide the most suitable solution. We help growers reach the plantation efficiency, while we lower the cost of production. LED come in many sizes, and there is a huge difference in cost prices. The key is to select the right power and volume of LED. Some crops have low requirements for photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), for which we would recommend small or medium 0.2-0.5W 2835 LED. The cost price is lower than 3030 or 3535 LED, which are more suitable for crops that require high PPFD.”

"LED grow lights become more and more common in a variety of horticultural facilities, including the production of medicinal/industrial marijuana, cultivation chambers, and greenhouses for flowers, fruits, and vegetables. The market for marijuana growing lights in North America and Europe rapidly expanded as a result of policy changes and the outbreak of Covid-19. Japan is one of the biggest users of growing lights in agricultural facilities, and China is catching up. Modern agricultural facilities have grown more important, as urban populations expand and the overall surface area of arable land is reduced. There is also a growing demand from border posts and research facilities. We are optimistic about the growth of greenhouse agriculture. The long term prospects for LED growing lights are optimistic," said Tony.

"Different crops have different requirements of LED in terms of wavelength and spectrum. Violet light can stimulate the production of anthocyanidins, encourage the growth of fruit or flower petals, change the color in leaves, and improve product quality. Meanwhile, red light is the main force behind photosynthesis, but under certain conditions blue light can push photosynthesis to reach optimum efficiency, which helps the crops grow taller and leaves to grow bigger. Blue light is often used in the initial phase of crop growth, because it helps the crops establish well-developed root systems. An ideal choice for crops with green leaves or rhizomatic crops is a blue-spectrum LED (435nm, 450nm). Flowers and fruits benefit more from deep red LED (660nm, 730nm). Of course, different growing environments require adjustments. The most suitable LED for roof lighting in greenhouses are 3030, 3535, 5050 1-5W LED. Vertical farms often use 2835, 3030, 3535 LED with medium power output between 0.2-1W. PPF, PPE, and PPFD are all key parameters for optimum photosynthesis in agricultural crops. We offer different LED grow light solutions based on the specific requirements for the crops of our clients. For example, if our client requires 800W PPF at 2400μmol/J, then we offer PPE at 3.0μmol/J. Practical tests show that the outcome is the same.”

"Our products meet excellent product quality standards, and are all LM80 certified. Test under temperatures of 105℃ show that our LED grow lights maintain 90% functionality after more than 50,000 hours. That is why we confidently provide 7-year guarantee on our products. The motto of Ledestar is 'peak service, successful clients'. We continue to provide service while our clients use our products, and we are always happy to help our clients find appropriate solutions. We succeed with our clients," said Tony.

Ledestar will participate at GreenTech Amsterdam 2022. GreenTech Amsterdam takes place from June 14th to June 16th in Amsterdam Rai Exhibition Centre. Click here to register.
