Spanish tomato imports from Morocco have increased by 348% since 2014

In the last eight years, Spanish tomato imports from Morocco have increased by 347.84%. Spain has gone from importing a little more than 18 million kilos of Moroccan tomatoes in 2014 to 80.79 million kilos in 2021.

The value of the tomatoes that Spain has bought from Morocco has also experienced a constant increase year after year, going from 13.71 million euros in 2014 to 83.2 million euros in 2021.

The price that Spain has paid Morocco for its tomatoes has increased by 35.53%. Spanish importers went from paying an average of 0.76 euro per kilo of Moroccan tomatoes in 2014 to an average of 1.03 euros per kilo in 2021, the highest price of the entire period analyzed, according to data prepared by Hortoinfo from DataComex, from the Secretary of State for Commerce, based on data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes of the Tax Agency.
