A general decrease in berry prices at origin in Huelva

According to the Andalusian Government's Price and Market Observatory's monitoring report for Huelva's 2021/22 berry campaign, in general, prices at origin have decreased in week 7.

For the second consecutive week, strawberry prices were lower than in the same week of the previous campaign in response to the increase in supply. Prices stood at €2.07/kg, i.e. 8.2% less than in the previous week.

Raspberry prices were good in the second half of January and in the first week of February but decreased this week by 4.2% over week 6, to €6.67/kg.

Despite the scarce supply, blueberry prices decreased by 1.4% over the previous week, achieving an average price of €5.47/kg, which is significantly lower than the €6.44 /kg price of week 7 of 2021.

The volume traded up to week 7
Strawberry plants are about to enter their full production and the volume sold this week was nearly 35% higher than in the previous week. So far, 11.4% of the expected production for the campaign was achieved, in relation to the average production of the 2016/17 – 2020/21 period, the document stated.

The volume of raspberries sold this week remained stable compared to the previous week, even though the volume sold throughout the campaign has been approximately 28.1% higher than in the previous week of the same period of the past campaign, according to the Junta de Andalusia.

Blueberry production, which arrived in the second fortnight of February, has increased by around 50% compared to the previous week, announcing the real start of the campaign.

Prices in international markets
Even though the weather conditions in the German markets reduced demand a little, Spanish and Greek origin strawberries have shown a good state of ripeness and have been well received. However, the Spanish fruit has had to lower its price to avoid stocks.

Spanish and Moroccan raspberry prices are equal in the Rungis market. Raspberry prices in this market have increased by 16.2%, while strawberry prices have fallen by 11.1%, and blueberry prices have increased by 2.6% over the previous week.
