Dutch ToBRFV counter to 38, first findings in Friesland

The Netherlands now officially counts 38 companies infected with the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV). That is two more than in the last update by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) in November.

In the list of municipalities, the Frisian municipality of Waadhoeke now also appears with 2 infected companies. Compared to November, contamination has been established at 4 new farms. No farms were released and 2 farms switched to another crop.

In addition to the 38 companies, 4 companies were labelled "suspicious" by the NVWA. The NVWA has not always done this in previous updates. In one case symptoms were discovered during the crop change and an official sample could not yet be taken. In a few other cases, a fruit sample from a lot that had already been sold was the reason for the suspicion. In these cases, as at every site, monitoring is carried out six months after planting of new crop to establish official status.

38 locations under supervision
As of 15 February 2022, the official status (between brackets, changes in figures as compared to the November 2021 list) is:

11 Westland
5 Hollands Kroon
1 Lansingerland
2 Reimerswaal
1 Haarlemmermeer
2 Horst aan de Maas
1 Goeree-Overflakkee
3 Brielle (-1)
2 Steenbergen
1 Zuidplas
1 Noordoostpolder
2 Westvoorne (+1)
3 Midden-Delfland
1 Pijnacker-Nootdorp
2 Waadhoeke (+2)

Since the middle of 2019, the virus has been detected at a total of 54 cultivation locations. 12 locations successfully eliminated the virus, while at 2 locations there has been a new introduction. 6 companies switched to other crops.

A European quarantine status still applies to ToBRFV. This means that companies must report if they think they have been infected.
