In an eventful market, a wide range of goods was again available; Spain, Morocco, Italy and Turkey set the tone. Dutch and Belgian greenhouse goods supplemented the ranges.
According to the BLE, Spanish truss tomatoes remained important, with a price per kilo of €1.90 to €2.40, ahead of Moroccan round tomatoes, which were offered at €1.17 to €1.45 per kilo. In Frankfurt, Moroccan beef tomatoes could not match the quality of Spanish and Belgian shipments.
There, as in the previous week, were Spanish giant beef tomatoes: The fruits, weighing up to 820 g with their variety-typical green-orange coloring, cost €12.50 per 6.5-kg crate. They had a convincing fruity balance of sugar and quickly found interested buyers. As a result of limited shipments, some traders were able to sell cherry and beef tomatoes of various provenances in many places with price increases.
In Berlin, demands for the Dutch cherry vine tomato Rote Perle® rose to €27 per 3.7-kg carton, but the items continued to generate brisk demand.
Apples
As usual at this time of the season, domestic offerings continued to form the basis of the range: Elstar, Jonagold and Braeburn were most frequently encountered.
Pears
Italian Abate Fetel and Santa Maria were predominant. The range of products was rather limited. However, demand was not particularly strong either.
Table grapes
The assortment was made up of shipments from Namibia, Peru and South Africa and was somewhat limited overall. However, it was sufficient to satisfy the constant demand.
Oranges
Spanish Navelina continued to predominate among the blond oranges. The quality was mostly convincing, but this did not fundamentally affect prices.
Small citrus fruits
Mandarins dominated the scene: Spanish Clemenvilla and Tango predominated. Nadorcott gained noticeably in relevance and generally convinced clients with their uniform grading.
Lemons
The supply was sufficient to meet demand, although deliveries were limited in some cases. Prices did not change significantly.
Bananas
Demand was quite friendly; it could not always be fully satisfied. As a result, traders were able to increase their demands on several occasions.
Cauliflower
French and Italian offers formed the basis of the range. As a rule, demand was adequately met, so that prices did not change significantly.
Lettuce
Spanish iceberg lettuce remained in short supply. The prices of the traders, therefore, continued to hold. In isolated cases, the price range widened, as a result of inconsistent quality.
Cucumbers
Spanish snake cucumbers continued to dominate market activity this week, although in many places Dutch greenhouse products gained in popularity.
Sweet peppers
Availability had reduced slightly but was easily sufficient to satisfy interest, which was not too great. Spain dominated, followed in importance by Turkey and Morocco.
