Until the first week of February, Moroccan tomato and courgette exports to the EU had not reached 50% of their quota. According to data from the Prices and Markets Observatory, by January 30 of this year, Morocco had exported 128,889 tons of tomato to the EU, i.e. 4% less than by the same date of last year and less than half of the 285,000 tons total export quota it can export to the EU in the 2021/22 campaign (between October 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022).
The average entry price of Moroccan tomatoes in the EU during week 4 amounted to 132.76 euro/100 kg.
The quota for the Moroccan courgette in the period between October 1 and April 20 amounts to 56,000 tons. According to the Observatory, so far, Morocco has exported 22,431 tons of courgette to the EU, i.e. 11% more than in the same period of the previous campaign.
According to the report, the average entry price of Moroccan courgette in the EU in the last week of January amounted to 145.83 euro/100 kg.
Meanwhile, in Andalusia, autumn crops increased their supply slightly, in general terms, throughout week 4 favored by the rise in night temperatures and the greater availability of solar radiation on these dates. However, the Andalusian production continues to be limited and, in cumulative terms, slightly lower than last season.
"The tomato campaign is in the central phase of its production and the entry of goods to marketers has increased slightly compared to last week. The active demand has led to a nearly 20% increase in the average price of the product, the highest figure of the last two campaigns. Approximately 25-35% of the short-cycle round tomato harvests in eastern Almeria have been completed. Regarding long-crops, 40 to 50% of the branch and pear tomato commercial varieties forecasted for this agricultural year have been harvested."
"Courgette continued to be the most valued product that week, although its average price has fallen by 17% and its production has increased slightly, favored by the increase in solar radiation and the rise in temperatures," the report states.
