The new zucchini season has just begun at CourgetteFleur Zwinkels in the Netherlands. "The first flowers have bloomed, and we're ready for it," says grower Johan Zwinkels.
"That wasn't a given, considering the current high energy prices and dark weather. But the plants are energetic, despite the scant sunny days." Johan is delighted that the hospitality industry is open at the start of the season, unlike last year. "That's a positive thing. Chefs can again prepare delicious recipes with our produce."
The flowers bloom only once, early in the morning, and must be harvested then. This is done solely by order to ensure the freshest possible product. The fresher the flower, the more beautiful the plated end product.
CourgetteFleur and Fioretta are available in growing daily quantities. Green mini-zucchini will be available from February 7. The yellow CourgetteFleur and mini zucchini from February 14.
"We cultivate all our products as organically as possible. Then we can deliver a beautiful, clean, fair product," says Johan. The products are GlobalGAP, GRASP, and PlanetProof certified. They are available in various packaging and come with a bar and QR code. "It promises to be another greatly challenging year. But together, we'll make it something great," he concludes.
