Hydroponic strawberry cultivation gaining popularity and providing challenges to Chinese growers

Strawberries are one of the most popular fruits to grow in winter in China. What are the precautions for growing strawberries? The person in charge of Guangzhou Shengsheng Agriculture Co., Ltd. introduced the following points to us.

In the past few years, the "A-frame" was more popular. Everyone agrees that this saves space and increases the yield of strawberries per unit area. But the fact is that the strawberries on the top layer are not affected by the light. On the second and third floors and even the fourth floor, the strawberries on the east side of the stand can't catch the afternoon sun, and the strawberries on the west side of the stand can't catch the morning sun.

Without light, the strawberry cannot photosynthesize. They can't effectively differentiate their flower buds, and the fruit won't turn red. The Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and some berry farmers in Ningbo have all made such attempts. As a result, the strawberries on the top layer have the most, largest, reddest fruits and the highest yield. Therefore, fruit farmers are now gradually changing to flat racks.

At the same time, when the substrate is filled, it is common for the substrate to sink by 2-3 cm due to drip irrigation of water and fertilizer in the later stage. There will be flower bud differentiation and fruiting of strawberries in the planting gutter, and the fruit cannot be effectively exposed. In this way, it is difficult for strawberries to have red fruit, and in the substrate gutter, the fruit is easy to contact the inner wall and the substrate, which is easy to cause rotten fruit. Therefore, the filling of the substrate must be fully filled, and the top of the gutter should be "pagoda-shaped" so that after settlement in the substrate in the later stage, the substrate can just be level with the gutter. The fruit can be hung outside and fully received the light.

In addition, more and more berry farmers prefer substrate seedlings. Although the price is higher than that of bare root seedlings, the survival rate is high, there is no soil-borne disease, and the survival rate is more than 95%.

Regarding fertilizers, strawberries do not require much nitrogen fertilizer, so it is recommended to use balanced fertilizers in the early stage, and it is recommended to use water-soluble fertilizers, which should be replenished once every 5-7 days, with a concentration of 800-1000 times. Apply high phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in the later stage to promote root and flower bud differentiation, and increase fruit sweetness.
