According to the latest data provided by Extenda, corresponding to the period between January and September of 2021, Almeria is the fourth Andalusian exporting province with €3,466 million and a 1.8% increase over the same period of the previous year. These are its best figures in the first nine months of the year since there are official statistics (1995). It still has the best months ahead for the export of its main export product: vegetables.
The good data registered in September contributed strongly to the accumulated figures. In that month, Almeria exports amounted to €277 million, i.e. 33% more than in September 2020.
Europe is the main destination for Almeria sales. The United States is also one of its main markets and the one that grows the most among Almeria's top 10 destination markets. Specifically, it is Almeria's fourth destination market with €304 million, accounting for 8.8% of all the province's exports, and registering a 43% increase in purchases.
Germany continues to be the main destination country with €757 million, 21.8% of the total, and a 3.4% increase. It is followed by the United Kingdom with €460 million, 13.3% of the total, and a 31% increase; France with €430 million and a 5.3% increase, the US (as previously discussed), and the Netherlands, with €263 million and a 5.5% increase.
There was also outstanding in Morocco, which ranks as the twelfth destination market, with €56 million and a 6.7% increase, Canada, which ranks 15th with €46 million and a 62% increase, and Israel, which ranks 18th with €25.6 million and a 197% increase.
Almeria mainly exported vegetables from January to September. In this period, vegetable exports amounted to €1,837 million, 53% of the total, and had a 1.3% increase over the same period of the previous year.
The year looks very good for Almeria's foreign trade. If it continues like this, in 2021, it could surpass the milestone it achieved last year, when it made shipments worth €4.3 billion.
