When one thinks of sushi, it is not long before one comes to wasabi. In the video below, famous sushi chef Hiroyuki Terada visits the wasabi farm, Half Moon Bay Wasabi, to find out where the wasabi he uses actually comes from, and how it comes to be. He speaks with the owner of the farm, Jeff, who, Hiroyuki says, is a popular man, as more and more people want his authentic wasabi to add to their sushi.
While walking between the greenhouses in which the wasabi is grown, Jeff talks about how he and his partner Tim decided to grow wasabi: βTim and I were both electricians, which is kind of funny. Tim was involved with the agricultural sector, and we often talked about how finding a niche is really important.β He continues to explain that the idea really started to grow when the two were β how else could it be β eating sushi.
Find out more about how Jeff grows the wasabi and what happens to it after it is harvested in the video below.
