Lingerie from banana plants? It's possible!

NederBanaan is currently proving that it is possible to grow bananas in the Netherlands by doing so in greenhouses in Ede. The first harvest was carried out this summer. Now the banana grower, together with MUSA Intimates, is also proving that you can manufacture lingerie from the trunks of the trees.

Pieter Vink, Sales and Operations Manager at NederGroep, which focuses on Dutch products in the short chain and is part of NederBanaan, spoke about this earlier this year in trade magazine Primeur.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Ellen van Til explained how this works on the NederBanaan website. "Our partner from France supplies the fabric for our lingerie. They are specialized in that, yet we want to study how the fibers from the trunk can be processed into usable textiles ourselves." The results of their research will be recorded. "Not much has been documented about the technique and we want to change that."

The whole story (in Dutch) here.
