packaging activities united and certificated

Dutch tomato growers switch to cucumber crop

After completion of the new Growers United Maasdijk packaging site, the packaging activities of Prominent Maasland, Green Diamonds Packing, DC Sweetpoint and Purple Pride were gradually brought together at this new site. The certification process has largely been completed and the audits have been successful.

The IFS Food and BRC Food certificates for tomato, pointed bell pepper and eggplant have been awarded, as has QS Wholesale. For cucumbers, BRC Food and QS Wholesale have been awarded. The new packaging site has been up and running since the fall of 2020.

Expansion of Green Diamonds Packing activities
In addition to packing cucumber, Green Diamonds Packing has expanded its operations to include central cucumber sorting. This allows growers within Growers United to switch crops without expensive investments in sorting or packaging lines. Recently, a few tomato growers within Growers United (partially) switched to the cultivation of cucumber. Green Diamonds Packing was recently audited and the scope of the BRC Food certificate was expanded to include the sorting of cucumbers.

Completion of certification
At the end of 2020, tomato packaging activities started in Maasdijk. In early 2021, the packaging of sweet spot bell pepper, eggplant and cucumber moved to Maasdijk. A new packaging hall with new production lines and products brings many challenges. "We expect to have all certificates for all sorting and packaging activities for the Maasdijk location by the end of the year," says QFS manager Jacques Wolbert.
