Dutch Horticultural Trade Mission to Kazakhstan

A Dutch trade mission to Kazakhstan will take place from June 2 to 8*. A selection of Dutch companies is invited to meet the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Mamin to discuss the development of the horticulture sector in Kazakhstan. The meeting is followed up by a round table with Kazakhstani business, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi, and several meetings with representatives of Kazakhstani Authorities in the capital Nur-Sultan and the Almaty region. The mission is initiated and organized by Kazakh Invest, Dutch Greenhouse Delta, in close cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim of the mission is to show that the Dutch agriculture and horticulture sector has a viable solution for Kazakhstan’s demand for self-sufficiency in food production, increased labor productivity, and eco-system development.’’

Development of a modern agro-industrial complex
In the winter of 2020, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan visited the Dutch Greenhouse Delta (DGD) and its partners and as a result of this visit, all the visited companies got an invitation for cooperation. DGD decided to propose a visit to Kazakhstan in order to talk with governmental leaders about the development of the horticulture sector in Kazakhstan. During the event, official and business circles of Kazakhstan and the Netherlands will discuss issues of mutual investment cooperation. Dutch companies will share their vision of the development of a modern agro-industrial complex, the transition to sustainable agriculture, and the introduction of the latest breeding solutions, using advanced digital technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence and Big Data.

Strategic sector
Kazakhstan is the 9th largest country in the world, bordering Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and China, which gives access to major world markets. Kazakhstan is a politically, socially, and economically stable country with a population of almost 19 million people and an area of 2.8 mln sq. km. The Agro-Industrial Complex is one of the most important strategic sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy. Around 20% of the employed population is engaged in agriculture and food production and 210 million hectares of its land are used for agriculture. The Kazakhstani Government supports the development of the sector with various incentives and subsidies, a business-friendly environment, and investor’s rights protection.

Position Dutch agriculture and horticulture
The goal of this mission is to strengthen and boost the relationship between the Netherlands and Kazakhstan in the field of agriculture and horticulture with a long-term approach. And additionally, to position the Dutch agriculture and horticulture sector as an answer to Kazakhstan’s demand for self-sufficiency in food production, increased labor productivity, and eco-system development. Eric Egberts, CEO of DGD: ‘’With this mission, we want to create awareness and interest to invest in the Dutch ecosystem for sustainable and profitable food production, including how to move from traditional to modern production.’’

Complete eco-systems for food production
In 2026 a complete ecosystem for food production (fruits and vegetables) of 800 hectares must have been developed in Kazakhstan. To this end, a business model with added value for the greenhouse business will be created and Dutch agronomists and specialists will be attracted, who will exchange knowledge and experience to contribute to the development of a complete eco-system for food production. The other mission goals are defining consumer needs in Kazakhstan (Fork2Farm strategy), understanding government laws and regulations (current and future needs), and creating a training center with additional functions and features like the World Horti Center.

The following organizations will participate in this promising mission: Dutch Greenhouse Delta, Van Der Hoeven Horticultural Projects, Dalsem, Certhon, KUBO, Hoogendoorn Growth Management, Koppert Biological Systems, Ridder Group, Svensson, Gakon, Priva, HVA International, Food Ventures, Solynta HAS University of Applied Sciences and  Rijk Zwaan.
