In 2020, Spain exported a record volume of aubergines for a record value. According to data prepared by Hortoinfo from the Estacom statistical service, the country exported 171.39 million kilos of aubergines for 173.68 million euro and an average price of € 1.01/kg last year, i.e. 7.01% more volume, 12.56% more value, and an average price that was 5.2% higher than in 2019.
Main destinations
France was the main destination for Spanish aubergines, as it accounted for almost 30% of Spanish aubergine exports in 2020. France purchased 52.89 million kilos of aubergines from Spain, i.e. 9.25% more than in the previous year. Spanish aubergine exports to France amounted to € 52.07 million and had an average price of € 0.98/kg.
The second-largest destination for this Spanish vegetable was Germany, which imported a volume of 32.73 million kilos for 35.69 million euro at an average price of € 1.09/kg.
Italy ranked third with 25.15 million kilos worth 20.52 million euro and an average price of € 0.81/kg.
It was followed by the United Kingdom with 17.85 million kilos worth 21.13 million euros and an average price of € 1.18/kg.
The Netherlands ranked fifth with 13.47 million kilos worth 13.53 million euro and an average price of € 1.004/kg.
