Last Friday, Leon Duijvesteijn of The Greenery Growers presented a new-style growers' board to Kees Hendriks and Stefan Wubben of Qcumber Optimize Nature in Pijnacker. The growers' board underlines the collaboration between the grower and the sales organization in the supply of fresh vegetables. In 2020/21, the grower produced cucumbers all year round with The Greenery.

Cucumbers all year round
“The new growers' board gives our company a fresh look, with both our own Qcumber logo and the Greenery logo standing side by side. This is a beautiful reflection of the path we have taken in recent years together with The Greenery; entering the market in good cooperation with the focus on selling Dutch cucumbers in the winter,” explains Stefan Wubben.
Together with Qcumber, The Greenery has succeeded in getting Dutch cucumbers on the shelves all year round. This was realised for the first time in 2020-2021. “Last autumn, Qcumber was already able to harvest in week 44, which made the connection with the unexposed cultivation,” explains Leon Duijvesteijn. "In 2018 this was still week 51 and in 2019 week 48."
“We are now experiencing that year-round cultivation is possible, although this also involves new challenges. This applies to both the marketing of the product and the cultivation-technical part," emphasises Kees Hendriks.
And these efforts have not been in vain so far. “We notice that the demand and need for contracts from retailers is increasing. Our biggest advantage over imported cucumbers is reliability and a constant supply with good quality. Thanks to the short lines of communication with Nick Rietveld and the other sales team, we can now look back on two successful winter seasons. Daily fresh product, sealed or unsealed directly to the end customer, that is what we are committed to and we would like to continue that in the coming years in collaboration with The Greenery. ”
