Lighting manufacturer Signify submits nearly two patent applications per day. This makes the company the number 1 lighting manufacturer on the list of patent applications for 2020 published by the European Patent Office (EPO).
Signify filed a total of 691 patent applications, not only for the horticultural branch. This brings them to position 21 on the list of the EPO. Other names such as tech giants and electronics giants to be expected on the list. Samsung's name is on 1.
Other horticultural (related) names on the list are Siemens, BASF, Mitsubishi Electric, Honeywell, Dow Chemical, Bayer and Saint-Gobain.
Lots of LED
In 2020 Signify filed a growing number of patents for LiFi, 3D printing, UV-C disinfection lighting and lighting for agriculture and horticulture. The company now owns more than 19,500 patents, almost all of them focused on LED-based lighting and control. They include everything from LED lamps, modules and fixtures to connected technologies for managing these light sources, making light connected, digital and sustainable.
Slightly fewer patents
In 2020, the EPO received slightly fewer patent applications than in 2019. The patent office noted a decrease of 0.7%, still good for 180,250 patent applications in one year.
