Iran: market of 600 million people abroad for the export of greenhouse products

The director general of the Office of Greenhouses, Ornamental Plants and Edible Mushrooms of Iran said: "There is a market for our greenhouse products of 600 million people in Iraq, Qatar, Armenia, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Russia, but this capacity has not been used properly yet."

Gholamreza Taghavi, the Director General of the Office of Greenhouses, Ornamental Plants and Edible Mushrooms of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture stated that: "Given that we are a country located in arid and semi-arid regions, one of the basic strategies to ensure food security is to use methods that increase productivity, and greenhouses were proposed as a way to increase productivity."

The official about the number of crops grown in greenhouses said: "At present, the number of products in the field of flowers and ornamental plants is over 200 products". He also added that: "In the field of summer crops, 4 to 5 main crops are cultivated, and in the vegetable debate, more than 30 types of crops are now cultivated." Taghavi also mentioned that: "It is interesting to know that we have strawberries, fruit trees, tropical plant products, such as bananas, ginger, turmeric, asparagus, pineapple and papaya, and new products."

He also talks about the export of greenhouse products, and mentioned that: "We export 40 million Euros annually in the field of flowers and plants." He then added that: "In the fields of flowers, plants, vegetables, we have demands from our neighbors, especially countries such as Iraq, Qatar, Armenia, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Russia."
