"The courgette market seems to have steered towards a positive trend in the last few weeks, but only after having discarded 40% of production, due to a commercial crisis that lasted more than a month, with sales prices as low as 0.20-0.25 €/kg. Since the first week of August, things have improved, with quotations that have gradually increased up to 0.50-0.60 €/kg."
Updates on the commercial trend were given by the Lucanian farmer Rosario Porfido, who also added that " During these days, the fruit and vegetable wholesalers are requesting products on a daily basis, compared to the previous days, when the product used to remain in stock for a few days, because the orders were very limited, if not even close to zero. The peak of the production is now over, with the harvest right in the worst time of the season."
"It was a difficult campaign marked by big losses. As if the problems on sales weren’t already enough. The hailstorms of August damaged 15% of the fields, forcing us to stop the harvest for about 10 days, since the product was not in compliance the market standards. If we continue on this line, this harvest will allow us to recover at the very least our expenses. We’ve still got another 30% to harvest. Fingers crossed!."
