“The quality and purity of our fertilizers is everything to us,” says Sanda Jovasevic with Plant-Prod, producers of high productivity plant nutrition. Strong controls are directed at raw material inputs to ensure that there are no contaminants in the fertilizer blends. “Everything blended into Plant-Prod and mixed into solution will be used by the plants.”
Worldwide
Plant-Prod has been in business since 1945. In the 70’s, their water soluble fertilizers started to be sold in Europe, and are now distributed to a worldwide user base. The primary production facility is located in Brampton, Ontario, where they have complete control over all aspects of production. Fertilizer blends can be customized to meet specific crop or grower requirements, at no extra cost. “We’re able to make what the grower needs, quickly.”
Products
“We ask growers what problems they are facing, and we look into how we can solve those problems for them.” For instance, some growers don’t have the ability to manage a two tank system, that’s why they invented the Duo Bag. It has small inner compartments, allowing typically incompatible materials to be combined in one bag, and in one tank.
Four years ago, Plant-Prod introduced an MJ line for cannabis growers. It is now widely used across North America and has sparked great interest in Europe. The line was developed based on years of experience working with cannabis growers. For these growers, purity of their inputs is extremely important. The company understands this importance and makes it a priority. They offer batch specific Certificates of Analysis and heavy metal results, upon request.
Testing, testing, testing
When Plant-Prod considers introducing a new ingredient to their production, the material must go through months and months of extensive testing. “You never know if something is hiding in the ingredients, and the quality of its production will tell a lot.”
The source of their ingredients is most important, that’s why they have long standing relationships with some of the world’s top suppliers. They know the true source of what goes into their fertilizers. “If you don’t know where the ingredients come from, you can have three problems: contamination issues that will negatively impact the plant, insolubility issues that may plug your system and impurity issues that leave you paying for something your plants won’t take up.” That’s why Plant-Prod also offer technical support, and find it important that growers can easily reach them. They’re determined to get growers on the right track, growing efficiently.
Customer feedback
Plant-Prod takes great pride in the relationship with their customers. “It’s easy to sell products, but we find it important to do more than that.” They are proud to have an extensive distributor network all around the world. That distributor network is also how Sanda met Amos Bassi, working for an Italian company that was using their products. Later, Amos moved to Ontario where he now works at Roelands Plant Farms, and continues to use Plant-Prod fertilizers.
Roelands Plant Farms is a 17 acre young plant propagator, producing plants for the United States and Canada. They also supplied the plants to the Guggenheim museum for use in exhibitions. “I’m at ease with Plant-Prod’s products,” tells Amos. “When I was working in Italy we used them as well.” At Roelands Plant Farms they use Plant-Prod for cucumber and watermelon, among other crops. “We start with selecting the right soil mix, then at the right moment we apply fertilizer in the right dose.”
“We are always in contact with Plant-Prod, they are always there for you and you can always reach out to them. If they have additional information they reach out to you to help with your growing strategy. Our clients are very happy with the plants and often surprised about the quality.” At Roelands Plant Farms, they use the fertilizers with a Dosatron, a boom system, or for a really precise dosing, in the irrigation water.
