NPEC research greenhouse Wageningen University

The NPEC research greenhouse for Wageningen University & Research at Unifarm will supply specialised equipment for the research of installations with a high throughput capacity. Bosman Van Zaal will realise the NPEC greenhouse and technical installations, based on a design by WUR and advice from PhenoKey. At the beginning of 2021, the NPEC greenhouse will be ready for large-scale research and experiments.

The five greenhouse compartments are fully automated and contain transport systems, gantries and watering systems. In addition, the compartments contain various cameras and sensors. These measure and analyse a large number of different plant characteristics.

This is done with a fully integrated interaction between all these different systems. The supplied software will be very flexible. This allows for easy integration with data management software, the climate control system and data acquisition. Below you will find more information about the technologies included in the greenhouse.

Highly insulated and technical greenhouse
The NPEC research greenhouse is highly insulated and fully air-conditioned with air handling units and external screening. The greenhouse is equipped with dehumidification and humidification systems and a CO2 dosing system. The heating and cooling is realised with a heat pump that is connected to an aquifer for seasonal heat energy storage. The water installations are connected to the existing irrigation units. In addition, all installations are fully integrated into the greenhouse design. Finally, climate and water installations can be individually controlled by the Hoogendoorn Climate Computer.
