Coviro strengthens its portfolio on the innovation front

New strawberry variety developed by Italy and the Netherlands

Relations between researchers from the Netherlands and Coviro are increasing. The plant nursery, based in Cervia (Ravenna), has introduced a new variety of strawberry and is also continuing to propagate certified mother plants.

"This news makes us very proud - explained Aurora Kamami (photo on the right), sales manager of Coviro - and expands our portfolio. We have introduced a new strawberry variety, Limvalnera, developed by the Limgroup breeding program. However, the good news does not end here. Impressed by our experience and organisation, the Dutch breeders have also chosen us as propagators of certified mother plants."

This agreement satisfies Coviro for two reasons, "firstly, because we can consolidate a strawberry breeding project started in 2018 with the collaboration for the Limalexia variety, and secondly, because of the excellent qualities of this variety."

"Limvalnera - added Aurora Kamami - which is named after a Spanish mountain range, is a rustic variety, highly resistant to various diseases, including Phytophthora. It is characterized by a long shelf life, combined with an excellent flavor and color. It has a good yield per plant and an average fruit weight of about 30 grams.

If Limalexia is a variety suitable for northern climates, Limvalnera, on the other hand, is specifically aimed at Mediterranean growing areas, mainly south-western Spain (Huelva), but also Morocco, Greece and southern Italy.

"We are very satisfied with this collaboration - concluded the manager - and that we have succeeded in introducing these varieties, which will allow us to meet the needs of our customers in different areas and climates."
