"Three local temporary teams produced gutters 'to perfection"

Lately, travel options were limited, and to certain countries even impossible. Still, most of the local projects of Meteor Systems are continuing and agreements made have to be fulfilled. In this, it was not the supply of materials and machines which was the challenge, but gutter production on location.

Meteor Systems is often one of the last suppliers who has to produce the gutters on location 1 or 2 weeks before planting date. Normally, they have a roll former available on every continent and fly in two operators who install the gutters with the help of local staff. Marc Staring: "The timely supply of materials and the roll former was not the problem. The biggest challenge was producing the gutters on location without being able to fly in operators."

Three local temporary teams
John Segeren, who has the final operational responsibility of the roll forming of cultivation gutters at Meteor Systems, had faith in it. He went looking for local technical staff with green blood and the right mentality. He selected and composed his team through video conferences.

He then made detailed instruction videos and provided online training in which he was 'live' online available. Finally, John succeeded to get three teams fully operational in Nicaragua, New-Zealand and in China who were able to locally install the gutters to perfection.

"We are happy to have been able to produce all our projects on location on time, particularly in China, where we have been very active since end 2018. Recently, we sold quite a few projects, and our customers were worried whether we would be able to fly in our operators. But the final result is excellent and we can go ahead full steam."

China
Meteor now permanently has a roll former in China with its own operational team. "We can produce gutters completely independent from the head office. If necessary, we can station a second roll former in China."

Begin May, Meteor opened an office in Shanghai, where Junyi Xu daily manages the interest of Meteor Systems China.

Junyi Xu

Junyi is positive about the Chinese market, the demand for fresh and healthy food has only increased since Covid-19, in which food safety and security are foremost. Junyi: "At the moment, large investors are choosing for a Dutch quality product. We can supply."
