"Classical music favors the growth of plants by around 25%"

The only Pink tomatoes certified by Aragon's Committee for Ecological Agriculture in the province of Huesca are grown in the greenhouse of the Organic Garden of Casa Rural La Portellada, in Barbastro, accompanied by classical music. According to their producers, Antonio Risco and Victoria Martinez, music favors the growth of plants by around 25%.

"The music's effect has been verified. The musical vibrations are positive, they relax the plants a lot, and work is more comfortable. Music's effects on animals have also been proven and this year we opted to incorporate classical music in the plantation in the morning. Nightingales and goldfinches do the rest."

"This is the first campaign we play music and we are in the adaptation period. However, music is part of the traditional cultivation style, with hemp ropes instead of reeds and selective pruning of plants. We'll start to see the results at the beginning of July when the tomatoes are harvested, but according to the reports we've read, plants do well with music," the producers stated.

The seeds are their own. "We produced them from the first certificates that we bought in the Agricultural Cooperative. The rest have been planted here and we've played music to them in all of their growth phases. We have to keep the tomato plants happy. Music is good for people, animals, and plants."

The producers have two greenhouses, one of which has 980 plants in full growth. They also have another 700 plants ready to be grown in the second greenhouse. By the end of the campaign, they will have grown more than 2,000 plants. "This figure is much higher than the 700 plants we had in 2019, but we sold all the products without problems because it had good acceptance."

In addition to marketing their Pink tomatoes in Spain in different formats, last season Casa Rural La Portellada sold them in different European markets, such as France and Switzerland.
