"You can't switch off plants"

Research continues at WUR in Bleiswijk

In the research greenhouses of the Business unit Greenhouse Horticulture and Flower Bulbs in Bleiswijk, the crops grow, especially with the sunny weather, very well. And crop treatments need to continue, which was also stated by the minister of Agriculture, Carola Schouten: you can’t switch off plants.

Following the Corona measures taken by Wageningen University & Research, all staff in the greenhouses and laboratories work separately. Research staff works primarily from home and if needed on location use separate rooms. Despite the restrictions the projects with year-round crops are carried out according to planning. Since all meetings with external visitors are cancelled the regular project meetings with the growers involved, are switched to virtual sessions. Videos are used to inform the growers and make decisions on modifications in crop treatments. This technology has proven to be very successful in the previous Autonomous Greenhouse Challenge and international projects.

The short video shows an impression of working under “Corona restrictions” at the location in Bleiswijk.
