Brandt Europe launches Manni-Plex Calcium

"Controlling blossom end rot in California peppers"

Brandt Europe, a subsidiary of the US agricultural company for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, has developed a nutritional solution to control the appearance of blossom end rot in California pepper crops.

The test was carried out in a 5,000-square-meter greenhouse located in Las Alquerias de Adra (Almeria), which had 7,000 California pepper plants and where the presence of the pathophysiology had been detected.

The presence of the blossom end rot was 100% controlled within 15 days after applying two treatment passes of their Manni-Plex Calcium solution, one of its Manni-plex range high-nutrition products, once a week.

After four treatments with the product, in a period of four weeks, the plants became more vigorous, the fruit noticeably improved in size and color, and the wounds produced by the pathophysiology had been healed by the plant itself, an obvious indication of the solution to the problem, Brandt stated.

Likewise, the peppers treated with Manni-Plex registered a more than a ten-day delay in the senescence time, the usual time it takes for post-harvest fungi to appear, and the beginning of the rotting period, when compared to peppers that hadn't been treated.

The multinational emphasized that this has had a decisive influence on the economic performance of this crop due to the high demand from foreign markets, such as the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, and the increase in the product's shelf life.

In 2018, Spain was the world's leading pepper exporter by turnover with 1,032 million euro and ranked second in export volume with 775,000 tons, only behind Mexico.
