This week, Freight Line Europe decided that, until further notice, to offer only unaccompanied transport for shipments to the United Kingdom. This was done due to the coronavirus protocol. "I am incredibly proud of all our employees and charters. They work hard, every day, to ensure that the transport continues. We also take the precaution to minimize everyone's risk of infection very seriously. So, uncrewed transportation via the ferry is the safest option," says Chris-Hans van der Hout.
The Dutch carrier has, therefore, had to adjust its order deadlines and departure times slightly. The shipping company is, however, receiving full cooperation from its clients.
The situation at the borders changes daily. There is also growing uncertainty that drivers may not be able to return to their own countries. "We have now been approached by several overseas transporters as well as clients."
"They want us to transship their freight from Spain and Italy. They want us to bring it to the UK. Driving times and the accompanying peace of mind plays a role in this," says Chris-Hans. "Just like us, they are obviously looking out for their drivers' health. The situation in these two countries, in particular, is well known."
Freight Line Europe offers this service from its new fully air-conditioned location in Maasdijk, the Netherlands. Also, they provide the possibility of cross-docking in northern France. That is done in consultation. "It may be for complete loads for one loading address. Or groupage trucks with multiple loading addresses in different countries."
"We gladly offer our services to transport products further to their final destination - if this is no longer considered viable for fellow carriers. These companies could be from Spain and Italy, but also other countries, of course," Chris-Hans concludes.
