Being nominated for a prize is awesome and so there was already a minor celebration at TAPKIT Hydroponic systems - but unfortunately the recent Covid outbreak throws a spanner in the works. Yet the startup is still being placed in the spotlights as the program wants them to be awarded for their sustainable initiative.
The Sustainable Fast Track Award Programme is an initiative by the UK Government to support sustainable startups from across the EU. Tapkit was nominated for the prize in the category Agriculture.
The TAPKIT is a 500 m2 hydroponic unit, with innovative management App, which can produce 6-12 tons of leafy vegetables and fresh herbs per year. "The idea is to enable small farmers to have their own hydroponic business, where they can grow and market their production to the neighbors, neighbor restaurants and their own consumption", TAPKIT CEO Avner Shohet explains. By growing close to the final customers, the CO2 footprint of food can be lowered.
Although the award show itself was canceled due to the virus, a prize will still be handed out. TAPkit is competing with an initiative to promote a vegan lifestyle and Eaternity, an initiative to calculate the carbon footprint of consumer meals.
We'll keep you updated on the winner!
