According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute, greenhouses in Kutahya cover an area of 61 hectares. This figure represents a 7.4 % increase compared to the previous year, indicating the rising popularity of greenhouse production in the city, which is located in the Aegean Region of Turkey on the western part.
With 61 hectares, Kutahya is ranked 29th in Turkey in terms of the greenhouse production area and ranked last in cities located in the Aegean Region. Approximately 76.5 % of the greenhouses are plastic whereas 21.3 % of them are high-tunnel and 1.3 % of them are low-tunnel greenhouses. The remaining 0.8 % is glass greenhouses. Greenhouses are located in 8 different districts within the city borders with the district leading the way with 46 hectares.
Looking at the Aegean Region, the area covered by greenhouses have increased by 2.1 % in 2018 from 7467 hectares to 7622 hectares. The city of Mugla was the top city in the region in terms of greenhouse production with a greenhouse production area of 3.905 hectares.
