Omar Ehab, O'berries:

"We expect about 8,000 boxes of Egyptian strawberries this season"

This week, the Egyptian strawberry season will start at O'berries in the Netherlands again. "We get daily arrivals. We are expecting to receive about 8,000 boxes of these fruits from Egypt. On Friday, 15 November, the first of these will arrive in the Netherlands," says Omar Ehab.

"We are currently harvesting the early varieties. We package the strawberries in 8x250, 10x250, and 400g formats," says Omar. "We can offer monthly prices. Some clients are still requesting Dutch strawberries. We still have these available in high quality. The Moroccan season will follow in around mid-December."

Increasing demand from Asia
O'berries gets a lot of demand for soft fruit from Asia too, states Omar. "For example, we send mixed pallets of (crowned) strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and red currants there. There is also a high demand for mix-punnets of strawberries and blueberries from Asia. We have these fruits available for Asia in 8x250, 10x25g, and shakers."
