Havva Inanc, a woman grower in Eskil town of Aksaray, has been growing pharmaceutical plants in the last 6 years but now she has started growing purple strawberries with imported seeds from China.
The grower now has production of purple strawberries in a 0.4-hectare area and the demand for the product has been increasing rapidly. Currently, the grower is sending her products to various Turkish cities such as Kahramanmaras, Konya, Sivas, Tokat, and Canakkale.
The grower has received her training 6 years from a course provided by the municipality of Konya. Afterward, she has visited many greenhouses in neighboring cities to learn more about the production processes. Later on, she has started her own production with the pharmaceutical plants. The grower continued to attend various courses to learn more about greenhouse production and consequently came in touch with a Chinese exporter in one of those courses who recommended her to experiment with purple strawberries. Currently, the grower is producing around 1 ton annually.
The grower also noted that 2 academicians from Kayseri Erciyes University are testing the use of these strawberries in the treatment of diabetes. Currently, the sale price for these strawberries is around 5 USD per kg.
