According to the analysts of the Polish Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics, in August 2019, compared to August last year, the purchase prices of vegetables for direct consumption increased for parsley (by 92%), beetroot (by 70%), onions at marketplaces (by 51%), onions at growers' cooperatives (by 45%), salting cucumbers (by 32%), pickling cucumbers (by 28%), mushrooms (by 16%) and carrots (by 14%).
In wholesale trade, in the analysed period, prices increased for ground tomatoes (by 120%), tomatoes from under covers (by 93%), onions (by 66%), beetroot (by 45%), white cabbage (by 18%) and ground cucumbers (by 10%), while prices of carrots and cucumbers from under covers decreased (by 21 and 9% respectively).
In June 2019, exports of fresh vegetables amounted to 33.5 thousand tons and their value to 26.2 million EUR. Compared to June 2018, the volume and value of fresh vegetables sold abroad decreased by 5 and 13% respectively. The decrease in export volumes was caused by a decrease in sales of onions (by 56%), cabbage (by 48%), cauliflowers (by 44%), cucumbers (by 36%), tomatoes (by 31%) and carrots (by 9%).
Compared to June 2018, the volume of exports of processed vegetables preserves decreased by 22%, and its value decreased by 15%.
In June 2019, 46.1 thousand tons of fresh vegetables were imported, i.e. 10% more than in June 2018. The value of the imports amounted to 39.9 million EUR, i.e. 13% more than in June 2018. The increase in the volume of imports was caused by an increase in imports of cabbage (by 289%), cucumbers (by 252%) and onions (by 41%). The volume of imported vegetable products was 23.5 thousand tons, i.e. 3% more than in June 2018.
During the whole first half of this year, the negative trade balance reached 201.5 million EUR. The trade deficit was higher than in the corresponding period of 2018 by 44.3 million EUR.
