“High pressure misting systems allow growers to humidify the greenhouses, but also to control the temperature better,” says Alexander Ievgeniuk with Lubing. “It’s a tool used in warmer climates, but also in cooler climates growers can benefit from the extra control they gain over their crop.” In order to realise more flexibility and easy installation, the company developed the Lubing Top-Climate System, allowing for flexibility and easy installation.
High-pressure nozzles
With a pressure of 70 bar, water is supplied as a mist into the air of the greenhouse. This goes via high-pressure nozzles, selected for the specific crop on the farm. The water mist evaporates and extracts the heat energy from the air, so the air temperature is lowered and humidity is increased at the same time.
“The water droplets are so small that they do not deposit on cultivation and do not damage the plants”, Alexander explains. “A controlled misting system makes it easier for the plants to keep the water supply by the root system in balance with evaporation – the stomata will stay more open. This increases the crop productivity and reduces irrigation and energy costs.”
History
The Top-Climate System is developed by the German engineers of Lubing. The company has existed for 70 years, since 1949 and has been working with the high pressure misting systems for 30 years. After gaining lots of experience at pig and chicken barns, they’ve extended their activities into the greenhouse market in the last couple of years.
International demand
“We noticed there was a great demand for the climate systems we provide”, Alexander says. “The demand is mostly international, from growers in warmer climates but also from other parts of the world with a cold climate.” They've done projects in Mexico and various places in South America, but also in their German home market. The system is being used in a broad range of crops, including orchids, tomatoes, strawberries, blackberries, cucumbers, peppers, paprika, and roses.
“Our growth markets at the moment are mostly glass greenhouses in warmer climates,” said Alexander. “I already mentioned Mexico and South America, but we are also looking at Egypt and the Middle East for potential new customers.”
Modularity
Lubing distinguishes itself by offering a modular system, Alexander explains. As shown in their animation, the system consists of various parts and can easily be installed at the greenhouse. The system is designed for easy mounting. “Our nozzle lines are six meters long, which allows for easier and faster connection. On top of this, our nozzle lines are already equipped with the pre-mounted nozzle adopter, which makes it easier to mount. Connecting and installing is much faster, which reduces the time necessary to set up the system. Without giving in on the quality, that makes it possible for us to save cost on both the system and the labour costs.”
