New sustainable packaging for tomato

Sustainable packaging is becoming increasingly important for supermarkets, and for some it is already the norm. For this reason, Eminent Food has introduced a plastic-free packaging for the Kumato tomato to the Dutch market, made of FSC-certified carton. The packaging has been developed in cooperation with Den Berk Délice and Valstar Holland. The packaging is in line with the sustainable packaging line which Eminent Food is developing for all their products, such as the Tomberry and the Tinkerbell.

The challenge of carton packaging is the visibility of the product. Eminent: "We have tried many options to maintain visibility without the tomatoes falling out with this packaging. We have made two opening, on the front and back side, for air circulation. An advantage of tomatoes is that they keep well, even without plastic.

The Kumato has a dark brown / gold green color, and an intense, sweet taste. The maturing process of this dark tomato takes place from inside to outside.

The Kumato is available in the new packaging (10 x 500 g) and can be ordered in the web shop.
