Solid board packaging tested in various markets

How to pack fresh products in a sustainable way without hiding them in brown cardboard boxes? Designing plastic alternative packaging requires taking into account all kinds of conditions. That is why Abelan Videcart has been testing their packaging made out of solid board in various markets.

“The material is waterproof, which makes it an excellent alternative to plastic trays”, says Daniel Aristegui. “We have been testing it in Europe for greenhouse products and hydro-cooling processed products, the French stone fruit, salad and cauliflower industry being a big part of it. In the African continent we tested them in the production of green bean, mangoes, grapes and tomatoes and in Central America, with melon, watermelon and pineapple.”

Eco-friendly
Videcart’s Solid board is made out of several layers of recycled grey board. In order to achieve a high moisture resistance in long term conditions, both external sides are covered with different papers, which can be Polyethylene coating, when trying to achieve maximum resistance levels.

“Solid board material is resistant to friction, external threat, compression and moisture. It has a high cost-efficient performance in logistics and gives maximum protection to the client’s products. It provides easy replacement and handling and fast transfer under cold conditions”, says Daniel. “In a global market where environmental awareness is paramount, we aim to give the products the packaging they deserve.”
