Turkish government distributes greenhouse nylon to growers
In order to increase greenhouse production and meet the local demand for fruits and vegetables in Batman, a city located on the southeast part of Turkey, 58 farmers were given greenhouse nylon by the municipality and Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Livestock to be used in an area of 730,000 square feet.
This initiative was taken under the increasing greenhouses program of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Livestock, and it is hoped that it will not only meet the local demand for fruits and vegetables but also provide a source of revenue for the local economy.
Batman Governor Ahmet Deniz: “It is not enough for only 200 farmers to start with greenhouse production. This city could be a smaller version of Antalya, a city known for fruits and vegetable greenhouse production in Turkey. We need to support our farmers and their efforts. For this reason, we are also starting an irrigation project worth 150 million USD where the watering needs of 1.4 billion square feet of land will be fulfilled. On the other hand, our country is becoming a more industrial country and industrial production is becoming more widespread. This is very normal however agricultural production is still very important for our country. We are trying to bring in new farmers and entrepreneurs into the agricultural production. Our supports are mainly directed to this purpose.”
