Vertical farming and solar-powered greenhouses part of ambitious plans:

Saudi Arabia announces Neom, the 500 billion dollar mega city of the future

Saudi Arabia has announced the ambitious US$500 billion plan to realize its ultra-futuristic Neom megacity project. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman announced the giant project on Tuesday. Neom will become a brand new city on the intersection of three countries (Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt) where "there is no room for old thinking."

Neom serves as a blueprint for Saudi Arabia's post-oil economy, that will embrace tons of innovative new technologies and mindsets. Also hyper modern farming will play a key role in Neom's economy. The city is ready to fully adopt the concept of vertical farming to help feed its population in a water, time and space-efficient way, as well as arid and seawater farming and solar-powered greenhouses. Creating a fertile oasis in this dry desert area will be no small challenge, but looking at the videos at the Neom project page, the Saudis have big plans to embrace a lot of green tech and know-how to make their dreams come true.
