Will indepence in seed industry remain an uphill battle?

Without a doubt, one of the biggest news stories of the year was the monster merger between Bayer and Monsanto, that created the world's largest agricultural multinational.



The fusion of the two companies can be seen 'just the next step' of the tumultuous situation that the seed and plant protection market is in. The market is under pressure price-wise, but moreover, patented technologies play a major key role and trigger rapid takeovers. Over the last decades numerous consolidations and takeovers have taken place within the seed breeding industry. We summed up some of the major transactions and takeovers within the (greenhouse) vegetable industry.




In September 2016 we also paid special attention to Iran, because after nearly 37 years of sanctions, Iran is open for trade relations again. So far two horticultural exhibitions and a few trade delegations have taken place, but what are the real odds for the development of greenhouses?
