Axia Seeds plants first crop in lit cultivation demo house

Due to the international rise of lit, year round cultivation, the breeders at Axia Vegetable Seeds weren’t really happy to only be showing tomatoes in an unlit demo greenhouse. Last friday they planted the first crops in their lit cultivation demohouse in the Netherlands.

Axia Seeds replaced the energy screen in the demo house with a black out cloth and installed 14,000 lux' worth of Son T lamps. The tomato plants in the lit demo were sown on 20-09-2016.

The new demo features Axia’s latest breeds in the large coarse and medium TOV and the plum tomato segment. As many as 13 new large coarse TOVs, 8 medium TOVs and 3 plum tomato varieties have been planted. Among others, Axia’s main breeds, Maxxis and Xandor, can be found in the coarse segment and the well-known Axiradius and the new Axxy in the middle segment. As well as this, the lit demo also houses a trial with Axia breeds being tested for getting through the year without grafting.

Color will be back in the greenhouse as of mid-January, but those who want to swing by are welcome to contact Cees Kortekaas and Michel de Winter now.
