In 2025, 80 per cent of parcels will be delivered by delivery robots. Consultancy McKinsey has predicted this in the report The Future of the Last Mile. Over 4,700 respondents from the US, Germany and China were involved in this research. Autonomous transport allows same-day delivery in some cases, even in distant areas. The consultancy expects that this type of delivery will not get popular until costs decrease significantly. If they do not, bicycle couriers will have a larger part to play in parcel delivery.
