Russia: New Saratov greenhouses built with Dutch technology

Saratov is a primarily agricultural region and is currently developing its main industry. Greenhouse agriculture is now one of the priorities for the development of the regional economy: with the support of the executive authorities, the municipality has created favorable conditions for the Minsk Group’s greenhouse development project.

The greenhouse complexes were built with new Dutch technology which allows the manufacturer to reduce production costs, and hence the cost to the consumers. The ultimate goal of the company, and the government, is to provide not only the residents of Saratov, but the entire region as a whole with quality vegetable products.

Long-term projects like that of the Minsk Group, will provide at least 1,590 tons of vegetables a year, which will help the region become a leader in the self-sufficiency of greenhouse vegetables, in keeping with the country's aims concerning import substitution.

The greenhouses will provide not only fresh produce, but also new employment opportunities. By the end of the project in 2018, the number of new job opportunities should have increased to 400. The company will make a contribution to the economy of the whole Saratov region, ensuring the growth of revenues, construction and logistics development there.
