De Ruiter going back to naming its new varieties

The DR9544TH, the DR2656TC, the DR0607TC. It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. For growers, it’s usually clear these names refer to a beef tomato, a mini San Marzano and a cherry vine tomato from Ruiter. However, for others involved in the chain the somewhat lackluster numerical breed names prove difficult. Not infrequently, employees of De Ruiter hear that the numerical names are being replaced by made-up names. So starting next year, De Ruiter will again work with variety names, said Nico van Vliet during the De Ruiter's Breeding Proof.

New varieties
This means De Ruiter has its work cut out, as several new varieties are to be introduced next year, such as additions to the middle vine-, cocktail, plum- and beef tomato segment. In the pepper range, a new red and yellow variety is on the calendar, as is a new cucumber for the cucumber segment. The varieties have been tested thoroughly at De Ruiter, and under different conditions. They are projected to meet the expectations of the grower.
