Further decrease in Dutch greenhouse acreage, more growers leave industry

The Dutch Bureau for Statistics have published an update on the vegetable greenhouse acreage in The Netherlands. According to the new statistics, the total acreage with Greenhouse vegetables has decreased with 50 hectare to 4,840 hectare. With a decrease of 80 hectare, the pepper acreage shrinked the most between 2013 and 2014; from 1,240 ha to 1,160 ha.

Even tough the tomato acreage increased with 20 hectare; from 1,770 ha to 1,790 in the last year, about 20 tomato companies left the industry. In 2014 there were also 20 less companies in the bell pepper business.

Holland now has 250 bell pepper growers and 310 tomato growers.
