Sustainability journal issue focuses on organic farming

The open-access journal Sustainability has assembled a special issue on "Organic Farming and a Systems Approach to Sustainable Agroecosystems." Twelve papers have been published in the special issue and are available online. They include a paper from Washington State University researchers analyzing the pesticide residues found in organic foods by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Pesticide Data Program.

This paper assesses the impact of current National Organic Program (NOP) policies and requirements that target pesticide residues in organic food. It addresses the degree to which the NOP, organic rules, and certifiers are helping to avoid pesticide residues that pose even modest levels of risk.
