Large Dutch tomato grower files for bankruptcy

Another large Dutch tomato grower went bankrupt last week. Grower Bramani in Luttelgeest operated a modern greenhouse and was established 2008. In 2010 the grower expanded it's greenhouse to a total acreage of 10 hectares. The bad pricing on the tomato market is named as the most important reason for the bankruptcy. Over the last year, many large Dutch growers went bankrupt as a result of the poor pricing on the market in combination with the rise of energy costs. In the past the growers could keep their heads up thanks to the high price of electricity and low prices for natural gas; a perfect situation for cogeneration. Many growers invested in CHP's. Nowadays the tide has turned; high prices for natural gas and poor prices for electricity.
