Fruit Logistica 2014 recorded excellent results, with a remarkable record number of exhibitors and visitors. More than 2,600 exhibitors from 84 countries presented their entire range of products, services at all levels and innovations for the sector. A record of trade visitors, more than 60,000 from 140 countries, gathered information at the most comprehensive trade fair event for the international fresh produce sector.
Hans-Jürgen Friedrich, Germany's Food & Agriculture Minister, welcomed numerous regional agriculture ministers, ambassadors and producer federation chairmen from around the globe to Fruit Logistica at the fair's official opening on Wednesday
At the stand of this year's partner country, Argentina, Agriculture, Cattle & Fisheries Ministry Undersecretary Carla Seain thanked them for the opportunity to represent her country at the Fruit Logistica. "We appreciate the fact that our presence on this international stage opens many doors for Argentina in the fresh-produce sector," she said.
Exhibitors and trade visitors consistently praised the presence of sector decision-makers, as well as the excellent contact with fruit and vegetable producers, wholesale and retail traders and import and export providers. 98% of trade visitors rated their business results at the trade fair positively. As in previous years, there was a high level of decision-making authority among the trade visitors. Some 75% were at the management level of their own companies, or were responsible for purchasing decisions.
Innovation Award
Every year the Fruit Logistica organises an Innovation Award. (FLIA- Fruit Logistica Innovation Award) This year the innovation award went to the "BBQ Grill Mix" from the Eisberg company based in Switzerland. The new convenience product is a quick and easy solution for barbecue lovers. "Ready to grill" vegetable mixes are sold in recyclable aluminium containers that is suitable for the grill or oven. The second place conterder selected by Fruit Logistica trade visitors was the "Oriental Mixed Living Salad" from Home Harvest Salad, based in the UK.This product offers a unique combination of coriander, pak choi, mustard and tatsoi. Third place honours went to "Vegetable Crumbs" from the Italian company Aureli. This is a gluten-free vegetable breading product, without preservatives and available in several varieties, such as, carrot, purple carrot, beetroot, celery and spinach.
The Innovation Award at the Fruit Logistica had evolved to become the most coveted award in the fresh produce sector. Attracting great interest in the business and media worlds, this award is outstanding for innovations in the fruit and vegetable sector. Experts selected ten outstanding innovations, that were introduced over the past year. These ten candidates were promintly displayed in a special exhibit at Fruit Logistica. Trade visitors had two days in which to select their favourites for the award.
