Spain: COAG warns about crop viruses, promotes crop insurance

COAG Almería has warned the province's growers about the effects of viral diseases on the region's tomato crops. For this reason, the agricultural organisation continues to raise awareness on the issue to convince growers to insure their crops against such adversities. In the case of tomatoes, "growers had until 31 October to take out the greenhouse insurance for this vegetable. Tomatoes are currently the most widespread crop in the province, with 9,800 hectares, and producers should not forget that a large percentage of our greenhouses were attacked by various types of viruses. We must also face weather adversities every year, which can affect plants and their production to a greater or lesser degree, as well as the infrastructures," stresses Antonio Moreno.
