Netherlands: I-Demo Days highlights energy and labour innovation
This month, Demokwekerij Westland and its associates organised the annual I-Demo Days. This year’s theme was energy and labour innovation. According to the coordinators, the event was again well-attended and well-appreciated.
Horticultural entrepreneurs, (technical) suppliers, trading companies, education, university and government were present. More than 500 people attended various lectures and convened to discuss innovations and current topics.
Both days opened plenary. On Wednesday Stefan Persoon (on behalf of TTO) lectured about innovation in horticulture and Richard van der Linde (Lacquey) spoke about labour automation with robots. Theo Duijvestijn - with Peet van Adrichem (Demokwekerij Westland) - officially opened the Techno Center Greenhouse. On Thursday, Erik Montfrans (Powerhouse) spoke to the visitors about the future of energy and Ronald den Boogert (TNO) on geothermal energy in greenhouses.
The speakers emphasized the need for energy and labour innovation. Some quotes are: "Robots are not only getting cheaper, but also faster", “In the long term, there are indications of dropping gas prices, an interesting development".
